Sophie Stoker-Long, LICSW

Social Engagement Coordinator

I’m a cat mom, plant mom, someone’s cool aunt, and a proud homebody. I feel lucky to have always lived on the South Shore and know it’s one of the most beautiful places on earth. As a little girl, I dreamed of being a fashion designer or a singer. It could still happen.

Instead, I followed my fascination with people and how they tick, which led me into social work. I earned my Psychology degree from UVM and my MSW from Simmons University, discovering along the way that I love group therapy and mutual aid. I thrive working with adolescents and young adults, mostly because I refuse to fully grow up. However, I’ve also been called an “old soul,” and this field has taught me it’s okay to be both.

Singing, baking, and yoga are my paths to joy. If there’s a potluck, you can bet I’m bringing something homemade. I bring humor, sharp instincts, and a lot of heart into my work, and I try to carry that same energy into life outside of it.

About

Growing up, I cared less about the math problem on the board and more about why the kid next to me was doodling dragons or acting out. People’s “why” was always more interesting than the lesson plan.

I became a therapist because I wanted to understand people and because I know what it feels like to not be understood. Therapy is never one-way. As I help people see their own strength, I recognize my own too. Therapy has taught me that change doesn’t have to look neat, logical, or linear, and it doesn’t have to make sense to anyone except the person living it. That lesson gave me permission to embrace my own authenticity, even when it doesn’t fit the mold. I want others to find that same freedom.
