Jordan Ellis, MA
Clinician
I was born in Michigan and moved to the South Shore when I was six years old. I grew up in a multigenerational home, and as a result, my relationship with my family is one of the most important parts of my life. I also deeply value my close friendships—being a good friend is a big part of who I am. I grew up with a white lab named Moose, who will always be the best friend I’ve ever had. Now as an adult, I have two labs—Bear and Baloo. Bear, my yellow lab, was named in Moose’s honor, and a little over a year ago, I brought home his biological brother, Baloo, a white lab. Being from the suburbs outside Detroit is also an important part of my identity. I feel lucky to be from two places, as it means more sports teams to root for! My two favorite teams are the Boston Red Sox and the Detroit Lions. When I’m not spending time with my family, friends, or my dogs, you can usually find me near the ocean—it’s the most healing and therapeutic place to me.
About
Although I’m the youngest person in my family, I was often in a caregiver role growing up. My mom faced many health challenges, and watching her navigate them shaped much of who I am. I spent countless hours at doctor’s appointments with her, where I learned how to advocate not only for myself but also for others. I also learned how to communicate with doctors and other healthcare professionals from a young age. While being a caregiver wasn't a role I necessarily asked for, I am grateful for the experiences it provided me with. I didn't realize it when I was younger, but some of the most difficult experiences I have lived through have given me the most strength and made me wise beyond my years. I truly believe that my life experiences are what lead me down the path to be a helper and I don't think that I would have it any other way.
