Jillian Heffernan, LCSW

Clinician

I grew up on the South Shore. I spend a lot of time with family, friends, and my dog. I enjoy weekend getaways, going for walks, shopping, swimming, and of course the beach! My favorite times of the year are definitely spooky season and summer. I’m known for wearing converse in a variety of colors. I always can appreciate a good movie night with snacks to re-charge. I am often told I have a “goofy” sense of humor.

About

Growing up around people who struggled with mental health, I developed a deep appreciation for the importance of compassionate care. During my undergraduate years, I explored different career paths but found myself increasingly drawn to the mental health field—especially after working with adolescents at McLean Hospital. That experience, along with my time in a psychiatric prison, solidified my passion for supporting individuals facing mental health challenges. These experiences have shaped my commitment to becoming a well-rounded advocate and provider. I’m especially driven to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and promote the idea that mental health deserves the same attention and care as physical health.

Why did I become a therapist?

I support clients struggling with life transitions, emotion regulation, relationship challenges, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, self-harm, trauma, and more. I also have experience working with LGBTQ+. I utilize a strengths-based approach and apply interventions such as DBT and mindfulness. I prefer to use various strategies to accommodate each individual’s needs and goals throughout their healing journey. I aim to create a safe environment where people feel like they have the space to be vulnerable and work through difficult emotions and distressing situations.
